and the sky went black | jill heupel photography

Never.  In six years of running this studio, I have never heard tornado sirens while out on a shoot.  I have never shot in a tornado warning, or probably even a tornado watch.  Not until this shoot.

So here is the S family.  They drove quite a way to come here for their shoot, and they were *awesome* about trusting me to take charge of their session.  They were creative, excited, and open to some fun ideas.

So we started the shoot with gorgeous light.  It was a cloudy day, but the clouds really worked well for where I wanted to shoot with them.

We used the bed for some sweet sisterly moments.  Here are a few:

Then we got through Easter dresses and a few shots with their tutus before heading to our second location.

At our second location, things were starting to get a little dark.  We jumped out and just started some tutu dancing when the rain came.  It was just a little rain at first, so we sat in our cars for a few moments hoping it would blow over.  Moments later, I was handing out umbrellas so we could run across the parking lot to the coffee shop for a little break.  While we were headed across the parking lot, the sky turned black and the tornado sirens started howling.  So off we ran!

We took our sanctuary in the the Artisan.  The girls were thrilled to have hot chocolates while we waited out the dark rain, thunder and hail.

Can you see the greenish tint to the sky?  It became evident that the storm was planning to stick around for awhile.  Session postponed.

The S family was so awesome.  They laughed off the bad luck with the weather and were happy that we were all safe and sound.
