baby morgan {nicu shoot} | jill heupel photography

This is Morgan.  His story is sweet and painful.

In the words of one of their good friends, Gwen:

After many years of trying, Robin and Tommy found out last Thanksgiving they were pregnant!  At the first ultrasound, there were two little babes swimming across the screen!  They were elated!  Baby A was always the picture of perfect health, grew like a weed, and daily had soccer matches in Robin’s belly.  Baby B was a fighter.  He was tiny, but strong.  Robin was admitted to the hospital at 25-ish weeks gestation.  On Easter Sunday, the doctors knew it was time to move quickly and had to deliver the babies because Baby B was not doing well.  Morgan and Ethan were born just seconds apart and so began their tiny little lives.  Morgan took off right away- growing, breathing, eating, and looking cute!  Ethan had ups and downs, doing well one moment, and needing lots of help the next.  He, too, had the “looking cute” thing down pat!

Just 21 short days into his life, God called baby Ethan home.  A peace that surpasses all understanding made its home in Robin and Tommy’s hearts.  They were broken, but were able to keep going with the knowledge that someday, they will see their sweet boy again, in heaven with the Giver of life!  Morgan has continued to grow like a champ, now tipping the scale at 5 pounds!  Robin and Tommy can’t wait to bring Morgan home, to show him Ethan’s rose garden in the backyard (35 rose bushes given to the family as gifts at Ethan’s funeral), and to begin their life as a family of 3.

When you think of them, please pray for this special family.  Pray for strength for Robin and Tommy, continued growth and good health for Morgan, and for healing for them all as they morn the loss of sweet Ethan.

In the photo above, Morgan holds on to his brothers little pillow and baby blanket.  I love his quick smile.

This is Morgan with his Mommy, Robin.  Morgan’s parents have done what they can to make his hospital room feel like a home.

Morgan rests next to a picture of Ethan.

Robin and Tommy, it was an honor to work with you.  Really!  Your little guy is so sweet and so blessed.  The faith that you have shown is inspiring.  Many blessings on your future together.

Chrissy Matthews My heart is filled with so many varied emotions. Pain and sorrow for the family, thanksgiving for the baby that remains here on earth, and joy that there is a God who loves us enough to give us an eternal home to look forward to.

Brings back so many memories of life in the Nicu…
