I get butterflies before every portrait shoot. Every wedding, every newborn, every toddler. The butterflies keep me on my toes. Make me think outside the box. Make me try to do better and better. The day I don’t have butterflies is when I should stop taking pictures.
In this post, you will see a very fun family. I originally worked with them several years ago when Mike hired me to do a surprise shoot for Amy. I came to the house and captured the kids having fun in the back yard, playing with each other, the dog, and some fun toys. Amy has told me that it was a great Mother’s Day surprise. Since then, I have worked with them on several occasions.
So back to butterflies… I get the biggest butterflies when I photograph families again and again. At their last session with me, I gave them everything I could. I tried to get the most sincere smiles, the sweetest moments, the best location and lighting. And then here I am again trying to outshine my last sitting with them. I don’t “compete” against other photographers. Each photographer has a different style and feel. You have to find someone who has the right eye, the right price, the right character to work with you. It’s different for everyone. I compete against myself. I am blessed with so many people who come back to me year after year to document their changing families. It is turning me into a very competitive person. With myself.
So here is my attempt to outshine my latest sitting with this great family. They brought along Banjo this time. Banjo is a star.
I love the next picture. I love the moment. Even Sam’s face is so honest. (Remember Sam, you like me! I play wiffle ball with you at camp!)
And the end…
S family, I can’t thank you enough for the continued support and trust you put in me to take your portraits. Really, thank you.
