the cougar in the tree | jill heupel photography

Although the pictures I take don’t show it, I am really an indoor girl. I like spider free places, indoor plumbing, chlorinated swimming pools.  Feeding dinner to my family on the back deck makes me feel like I have been roughing it.  Indoor girl. That’s me.

This was an exciting shoot for me.  First of all, I was excited to work with Drew for the second time.  Drew is in a band, and I had taken band photos of the group a while back. He was fun then, and fun now.  I love to work with musicians.

Secondly, I have photographed a handful of Drew’s friends.  I always try to make each session unique, and I did not want Drew’s pictures to look anything like his friend’s pictures. So I knew that we would be going to some new places during the shoot.

Lastly, I had a run-in with a large critter.  Large, like a small microwave, giant shoe box, good sized mailbox.  During our shoot, we heard a commotion in the tree branches above us.  It turned out to be a giant ground hog-beaver-cougar thing.  No joke.  I wish I had the sense to snap a picture of the beast, but I was more concerned with getting away from it in one piece.  (A photograph would also confirm that I was freaked out by a smallish ground hog.)  In all honesty, I am sure I scared it half to death and it was trying hard to get away too.  But the thing was above me. In a tree. Frantic.  We all survived and finished the shoot with out further incident from the beast.

Without further delay, here is Drew.

Thanks Drew.  I have full confidence that you would have saved me if that beast had landed on my head.  Right?  Hope you enjoy the preview.  It was great to work with you.

so long, 2010 | jill heupel photography » Jill Heupel Photography […] Drew’s photo above was taken moments before a giant rodent-monster-thing jumped out of a tree to eat me.  Seriously.  You can read all about it here. […]
