Newborn sessions are among my favorites. Working with me, every newborn session is different from the last. There is a style of newborn photography that has been popular for a few years which involves prop, blankets, hats and naked babies. There are some photographers who are amazing with these set-ups, but this style of newborn photography is just not me. I have learned over the years that my best work is when I am shooting images that I would like. Images I wish I would have had of my own babies or at my own wedding. My newborn sessions have a classic, timeless feel. I don’t want your pictures to be outdated by anything in them. Unlike 90s hair (guilty), I want my images to hold the test of time.
Let me introduce the K family. For their newborn session, I met them at the hospital the morning after little Josie was born. I got there before big brother Jax came to meet his new little sister.
Shortly after these were taken, little Jax arrived to meet his sister. Grandma was there too, so we got her in on the action.
After their hospital shoot, I was able to meet them at their home for a few more family pictures. Normally, this happens in the next few weeks. With the K family, though, we had rain delay after rain delay. So Josie is 2 months old here!
As with every photography session you schedule, you should find a photographer whose vision is close to what you are wanting to have on your walls for many years. I understand that I am not the photographer for everyone’s aesthetic. Do your research! It will pay off in the end.
Thanks K family for trusting me with the images from Josie’s first few hours and days!
