be sexy empowered beautiful you | jill heupel photography

I survived my weekend as a vendor at the Working Women’s Survival Show.  It was intense…  Think 25 hours of show time, let alone set-up each day.  Looking back though, it was all worth it.  I took this “mostly women only” opportunity to really feature and talk about Boudoir Photography.  While I do lots of different types of photography, Boudoir is my sweet spot.  I get to work with someone who is {usually} embarrassed and shy and help them become a more empowered and confident person.  I get to help them create a gift for their sweetheart that will be cherished for years to come.  Most times, the husband truly understands how difficult it would be for their spouse to have a photo sitting in lingerie, and the gift is that much more intensified.  Besides this, women are hard on themselves.  Each of us.  Having an album to look at, to see that you really are a sexy and confident person, is hugely empowering.

You can do it for him or do it for yourself.  I recommend both!

I will admit that the show was not all work and no play.  My sister had a booth for Stylish Noggins right next to mine.  My Mom was also there for part of the weekend.  She sat across the way, beaming at her girls, and kept us stocked full of Diet Coke.  We don’t live in the same region of the country, so I loved having both of them so close for the whole weekend.

I also need to give a holler to the women who let me use their images for signage, albums and the slide show.  You know who you are, and I am so thankful that you were willing to show some of the images from your intimate session.  Thank you for helping other women to see what you did and think about what a shoot like this could do for their lives.

That is all for today.  With my hand surgery and this show, I have not been booking sessions for the last few weeks.  I am back at it this weekend, though, with 5 fun sessions planned.  SO excited!

grandparents | jill heupel photography

Meet the L family.  They are a large, entertaining, happy, playful family.  Their sitting was a gift for Grandma and Grandpa, so the pictures were all about Grandparent fun.  My favorite portion of the pictures came when we had each grandchild spend a few moments on Grandma and Grandpa’s lap.  Shooting those pictures, it was hard not to wish that I had some of the same documentation of myself as a child or adolescent with my own grandparents. Here are some of those sweet moments…

Thanks L family, for letting me in on these moments.  It is wonderful to see how much you all love and care for each other.

rhiannon | jill heupel photography

I’ve talked before about how amazing sessions are when my customers trust me completely.  Here is another one of those examples.  Rhiannon is in the graduating class of 2012.  We got super lucky and were able to shoot in 55 degree weather on a beautiful weekend in February.  Rhiannon let me choose the locations and really trusted me with her session.  She totally rocked it.

See for yourself:

Thanks for an ah-mazing session, Rhiannon

working women’s survival show | jill heupel photography

This is my sister.  She is amazing.  Kari has had Alopecia for 20 years of her life.  In case you don’t know what Alopecia is, the immune system attacks hair.  This results in permanent hair loss.  In the beginning, Kari wore wigs.  But as the years passed without new hair growth, she eventually became more and more comfortable in her self.

Kari rocks hairlessness.

Kari runs Stylish Noggins, a company that helps people through the struggles of hairlessness.  She and I will both have booths at the Working Women’s Survival Show the last weekend of February.  Kari will have a stint on the Main Stage Friday evening at 5:30.

While you are there, you can come by my booth as well.  I will be sharing information about Boudoir photography.

Here are some of the shots I have taken for Stylish Noggins.

Come hang out.  Have fun with the girls.  Hope to see you there!

why i love/hate valentine’s day | jill heupel photography

I used to hate Valentine’s Day.  Even when I was newly married, I thought that it was crazy to have to have a day dedicated to showing love to your someone.  I thought it was commercial, expensive, unnecessary.  I loved my guy and I did not need a day to force it down everyone else’s throats.  Plus, who has not had a Valentine’s Day alone?  I remember that feeling of being singled out.  I was lucky to marry a guy who brings me flowers, leaves me little notes, shows me love daily.  Daily.

So why do I need Valentine’s Day?

Enter adolescent kids.  That’s right.  I am the proud momma to 3 teenagers.  I love them.  I want to squish their cheeks and kiss them.  I want to {gasp} hug them in public.  I love them.

Valentine’s Day around our house has become about the kids.  It is the day where they get reminded, in an over-the-top way, that they are the loved.  I might not be squishing their cheeks.  (Okay, I might cheek squish just once…)  My kids will wake up in the morning to chocolate chip-heart-shaped pancakes and strawberry smoothies.  They open a present from husband and I.  They read a gushy card spelling out how we love them to the end of time.  They love it, but for one day only.  By Tuesday of next week, we will have resumed the safe distance apart while in public.

I am wishing you all a happy Valentine’s Day.  Hug your kids of all ages.  Smooch them up.  😉

Here is some of the love I have gotten to document this year.  Happy Valentine’s Day!
